Bos Taurus: News

A little nip and tuck... - April 15, 2012

After further review, we decided that the website needed a little face lift. We hope you like it. Tell us what you think on the Guestbook!

Bos Taurus Live at the World Cafe Live at the Queen, 4/6/2012 - April 10, 2012

Wow! What a great show this was. If you missed it, well, you missed it! Check out the photo gallery for some pics from the show. We were joined by Sam Smick and also Cliff Hillis and the Forward Thinkers. Both were fantastic. The WCL@the Queen is a great venue; we can't wait to perform there again soon. We hope you'll join us.

In the Sun Released - April 1, 2012

Finally, finally, finally. After much ado, and much hard work by many, many people, our latest release, In the Sun, is finished and released - officially on April 1st, 2012. The album is currently available on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. It will be available on Spotify and a number of other outlets soon. If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, you can go to any one of those sites and preview the tracks. Also, the single from the album (also "In the Sun") is available right here on the Music page for you to listen and even download. We hope you like it (and the rest of the album too). Thanks for listening.

Drum Tracks Finished - March 10, 2010

At least I think they're finished. My ears might be a little tired from listening to them too damn much, but if they're not totally finished, they're really close. Guitars and bass are up next...Stay tuned.

New pics... - January 6, 2010

...from our first show of the new year, at the North Star Bar in Philadelphia on 1/2/10. Check them out on the Photos page.

Work on album #2 continues - December 25, 2009

Just wanted to drop a note that we're continuing to work on the second album. Progress is probably a little slower than I would have hoped, but things are definitely moving along. Many thanks to Dave Mauk and Brad Newsom for very kindly loading us some sweet gear to help out in our studio. We hope we do you proud.

We're doing up a couple shows in Philly in January (check out the Calendar for info) and are looking forward to them. We'll probably pick up a few more shows in the early part of the year in prep for the Delaware beach festival season. Keep an eye on this page for more updates.

Is Bos Taurus Working on Another Album?? - August 31, 2009

The short answer is "yes". The somewhat longer answer is "Yes, after much deliberation concerning where and how we would accomplish this massive task."

And so, after said deliberation, we've decided to record the majority of the material ourselves (again), while leaving ourselves open to the possibility of doing some of the work in other studios. And, of course (really, obviously), we will have the record mastered by professionals (as we confess to not totally understanding that magical process).

The big difference between this venture and the first (the album, It's Plain -- see the Buy tab for info) is that we're upgrading our gear, which is part of the reason for our delayed project start. The delay has nothing to do with a lack of material. In fact, I've penned something like 16 songs in preparation for this album. Plus, given how long this will take (I'm guessing 6 to 8 months start-to-finish), I'm sure there will be a few more tunes added to the pile by the time all is said and done. Have no fear though - we'll whittle that down to a more streamlined # by press time.

So, keep an eye on the website to see how we're doing with it. Who know? Maybe we'll just post a little audio tidbit here and there along the way...

Demos added to the Bos Taurus Player! - April 21, 2009

My conscience got the best of me, and I JUST COULDN'T STAND IT ANY MORE!!!...So, I broke down and added a couple of demos to the Bos Taurus Player: Precious Pearls and Look Inside Yourself. I hope you like them. I recorded Precious Pearls several months ago; Look Inside Yourself only about a week ago. As always (so far, anyway) that's me on all instruments and vocals. I have about 10 or so more of these tunes awaiting a visit to a studio for professional recording. I expect that to happen in early summer.

Oh, It's Plain is the same old song penned for the first (and only, to date) album.

Bos Taurus plays the Delaware Music Festival and Wins a DMA - April 11, 2009

Due to lack of sleep, improper nutrition, and a host of other issues, it's taken me a week to recover from the Delaware Music Festival, held at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach, DE on 4/3-4/4/09. But now that I'm finally recovered (physically, anyway), I thought I'd share with you a few pics and maybe a couple of thoughts on the events of last weekend.

First, we rock a number with Satan on the drums. Note that while he has hidden his horns--probably with the help of black magic--his wings are quite apparent. The fact that they're white is purposefully deceiving. I had always suspected this of Mr. Young...

Here's a nice pic of me and Shawn, me with my trusty Jazzmaster, Shawn wielding the SG (like no other can):

And finally, here's a pic of me receiving a DMA for Best Pop Band at the show. I confess I don't look too comfortable in this pic, but Rob sure seems delighted with the whole thing...

Click here for an article about the award in Metromix. Also, check out the the Photos page for a couple more pics from the event.

I hope you didn't miss this show... - February 11, 2009

Bos Taurus rocked Kelley's Logan House last Saturday night!! (see pics below)

...oh, yeah, and there were these other two bands playing too...what were their names again?...Oh, right - the Cocks and the Knobs too!!

All joking aside, this was a special event for the Knobs, who, led by Bos Taurus's own Phil Young, rocked the biggest crowd I've ever seen at the Logan House, bar none. Check out the photos uploaded to the Knobs myspace page. The Cocks started the show in top fashion, debuting a couple of new tunes and breaking in their excellent new drummer, Pete (sorry Pete, I don't know your last name yet!). I'll post some pics of that when I have them. Or, you can check to see if they post any of them on the Cocks myspace page.

Here are some pics of Bos Taurus from the show:

Steve and the Godfather...

The crowd...

See? You should've been there...

Another Review and an upcoming gig - January 29, 2009

Hey folks. We have another review of It's Plain, this one compliments of Steve over at Absolute Powerpop. I've added it to the Press page, so be sure to check it out.

Also, we have a couple of gigs coming up in February, the first one on Saturday, the 7th at Kelley's Logan House in Wilmington, DE. We're playing with the Cocks and the Knobs (coming back to do a posthumous, one-time-only record release party) Both bands are also from Delaware.

You Missed It... - December 22, 2008

Bos Taurus at Mojo 13 on 12/20/08.

Bos Taurus at Mojo 13, 12/20/08 - December 21, 2008

Oh, I'm so sorry for you. Yeah, you. I'm talking to you. You, whoever missed the show at Mojo 13 last night with us, Caterpillar. This Show is Fire, and Caves of Mercury.

You know why? Because it was a great show and there were lots of people there. To name a few: Rob Kalesse from Spark, Ryan Cormier and Ed Kenney from the News Journal, and some dork with a black eye who danced in front of the stage during our entire set, shouting unnecessary encouragement, probably a few obscenities and God knows what else. Actually, while I'm sure he's a perfectly nice guy, he's lucky I didn't kick him in the face last night.

Anyway, pics coming soon. Ya'll be good now, y'hear?

Added a "Press" Page to the Site - December 18, 2008

We're starting to get some press and reviews, so it only made sense to get it all set up in one space. Check it out (look to the left-hand navigation on this page if you're confused).

Bos Taurus on WSTW! - December 17, 2008

You know, had I actually known about this ahead of time myself, I would have told all of you fine people about it. But the fact is, I didn't. Mark Rogers, the DJ on the Hometown Heroes program at WSTW (in Wilmington, DE) told me after the fact that he had played us on the program a couple of days before--which, of course, we appreciate tremendously. (You can learn more about his program here.)

So here, in all it's glory, is an excerpt of the show where Mark plays the title track from our debut CD, It's Plain. A pretty funny side note about this is that the guest band in the studio the night he plays the song is the Caulfields, a well-known (but now defunct) band from the area who still does the occasional show. There are connections galore between Bos Taurus, the Caulfields, and the Knobs. I know it doesn't sound like it makes much sense here...just listen to the'll get it.

Bos Taurus Press - November 30, 2008

Hey folks. I just wanted to direct your attention to a couple of pieces of press we received in November. One is a short article that appeared in the 55 Hours section of the Wilmington (DE) News Journal. You can check it out online here.

The other was a Band Bio in Spark Weekly, a local Delaware entertainment newspaper that focuses on nightlife in the area. You can check out that article here.

Enjoy! (and tell your friends about us too!)

CD Release Party in just a couple of days!! - November 3, 2008

I know, I know!! Me too!! I can't friggin wait for our little soiree this coming Saturday (11/8 at Mojo 13 in Wilmington, DE)!

Hope to see you there. I'll be the guy wearing the Jazzmaster.

CD Release Party in Two Weeks! - October 26, 2008

Mojo 13 I know that you know that I know that you don't have anything going on on Saturday, 11/8. Just admit it. It's ok. So, considering that you don't have anything to do on Saturday, 11/8, why don't you plan to come out and see us play at Mojo 13 that night? Mojo is pretty much the only venue for original acts in northern Delaware. And we're happy to take the stage with a couple of other rockin bands - the Safes and Delaware's own Jenny Bostick.

So, grab a jacket, stick at least $5 in your pocket, and sit and wait...for two weeks...we'll see you there...

The Fire - 10-1-08 - October 12, 2008

the_fire Ah, the brings back fond memories for us, I have to say. This was the last place our old band, the Knobs, played before the untimely passing of our bandmate, Phil Healy. So, it was with a sense of nostalgia I guess that we took the stage...

It was a Wednesday night, so of course the crowd was light. Those in attendance were mostly members from the other bands on the bill. We played well, though, and had a good time to boot. I'd upload some pics, but none that were taken came out very well, because the stage was pretty dark...Here was our set list:

- Anyway, Anyhow
- Fool
- What Comes Around
- It’s Plain
- Some Say
- Some Day
- Hello
- Don’t Look Down
- Must Be the Light)
- I Want to Know

OK, folks, we hope to see you at our next show, which is at Mojo 13 in Wilmington on Saturday, 11/8. Should be a good time and might end up being our CD release party. Cheers to all...

Bos Taurus at Taylor's - September 21, 2008

Hey folks. First, we'd like to thank anyone and everyone who came out to Taylor's in support of the Save 2nd Base event last night. The beer was flowing, the music was happening, and the beer was flowing (did I already say that?). The event was a rousing success.

Anyway, the white whale made its way up the blue route early evening to Norristown...following the wrong car at least half the way! Still, we made it ashore on time for the gig. And as you can see, we friggin' rocked.

For those of you who didn't make it, you missed a good show. You can make up for this momentary lapse of reason by showing up at the Fire this Tuesday, 9/23. We'll be there. Now it's your turn.

Shows Starting to Come In - September 15, 2008

Hey folks! The Bos here. We're starting to book some shows at this point, so be sure to keep your eyes on the Calendar page for the latest venues we'll be visiting.

Stay in touch. Don't be afraid to pop by the Guesbook and let us know what you think. Many thanks...

It's Plain Available on iTunes! - August 13, 2008

Yup, it's true. Now we're available on on iTunes. Again, pretty cool stuff. Now we're right up there with Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers. What more could a band want?

It's Plain Available on CD Baby! - July 29, 2008

Finally, finally, finally, the album is available in the public domain, on CD Baby, here: It's also listed among the New Arrivals in the Power Pop category on the site at the moment. Not sure how long it will be considered "new".

It will be available via a few other online outlets soon as well, but for now, CD Baby is the place to go. If you're not familiar with CD Baby, you should check it out; it's a very cool site with tons of great stuff - they do an excellent job categorizing their music. So, if you wanna hear Industrial Metal from South Dakota, you can filter your way right down to it in just a few clicks. Pretty cool if you ask me.

New Site - July 27, 2008

Frankly, the old one looked a little crappy. This is simplified and much improved.

Hope you like it.

New feature - a Calendar - July 26, 2008

We've just added a calendar to the site so you can keep track of when we're playing and where.

Check it out!
